In the early stages the triple of Colin McIntosh, Laurence Friel and Don Lilley,Were looking good having won their first two games however the triples of Walter Jamieson, Stewart Cattanach and Russell Stephenson, as well as Michael Leech Martin Air and Allan Howie, were getting into contention to such an extent that Farquhar_Triples_Winners_2010_Webeverything depended on the last game, even at that when the final game was completed all three triples were on 8 points meaning that shot difference would decide the winner. In the event the Michael Leech, Martin Air and Allan Howie (skip) triple won the competition on plus 21 shots with the Russell Stephenson triple the Runners Up on plus 16 shots. Don Lilley and his triple ended up a close third with the same 8 points and plus 15 shots. A close competition indeed

Bell Mixed Triples - 2010

Dorothy & John Bell , Mixed Triples 26th 27th and 29th April 2010
Competitive Bowling started at the club last week with the Mixed Triples competition, which is sponsored by Dorothy and John Bell. The competition was run in two sections of 4 with each team playing each other over a series of 8 ends, with an additional cross over game.
After the completion of the Section games the Triple of Patricia McCallan, Luke Healy and Don Lilley (Skip) were clear winners in the Blue section with 8 points having won all of their games.
The Red Section was tighter although their was a clear winner the Triple of Helen McKerron, Cathy Crossan and Michael Leech finishing with 6 points, having lost only one game in the series.
The spectators who turned up to watch the final, played over 10 ends on Thursday night, were treated to an excellent display of fine bowling and excitement with the final result not settled until the final bowl was played. Michael Leech and his team started well scoring two in the first end before Don and his team score 2 in successive ends to lead 4 shots to 2, back Michael’s triple to level the scores at 4 all and to further add two singles to lead 6 shots to 4, Don’s triple again reacted to score 3 shots in 2 ends to lead by 7 shots to 6.
Michael and his team were not finished yet as they levelled the game by scoring 1 shot to make the game all square going into the last end. Michaels lead Helen McKerron, who played very well throughout the game, played an excellent bowl not far from the jack and this bowl remained the shot when the leads had played their bowls. Cathy Crossan then played her best bowl of the night which ended up touching the jack and staying their, Michael at this point was lying 2 shots and the position remained the same until the skips played their bowls. Michael concentrated on covering behind the head whilst Don had to disturb the head, which he did with his first bowl, however Michael was still lying the 1 shot needed to win the game. Try as he may with his final two bowls Don could not change the head and Michael’s triple ended up worthy winners of the trophy in an excellent game.
A great start to the season organised by Alan Howie the club Match Secretary .
